April Fools…NOT!

April 1st, 2010

In one of the most ironic twists of fate, “For Lease” signs went up today in the windows of the South Branch Library in Evanston, despite the City having granted 6 months in which to find sustainable funding.

While the South Branch has served the neighborhood for more than 75 years, and was actually expanded during the Depression due to heavy use, the City has given notice on the lease as of August 9th. Many patrons were confused by the signs and some even thought they might have been some sort of April Fool’s prank. For more information, see EPLFriends President Emily Guthrie’s statement here.

Could you please post the alderman's names and emails and who is for and against the branch libraries so we can start telling them what we, the voters, want.

    Thanks!
