With National Library Week celebrations behind us, and our first annual Kids’ Read a Thon under our belts, we’ve been moving forward at a pretty quick clip and things are looking pretty good.
At the close of our official Charter Membership Drive on 4/17, we have officially topped out at more than 1,500 new family memberships since we began our drive 6 short weeks ago. Thanks to everyone who joined and encouraged friends to join as well.
The Read a Thon celebrations and Lemonade for the Libraries fundraising events at both branch locations over the weekend earned more than $3,000 which also included sales of our awesome new sportswear. There was a run on ladies T-shirts and we’ve had to order more! Thanks to those of you who braved the cold morning to come stand in a sliver of sunlight to facepaint, blow up balloons, sell lemonade, or encourage dialog about EPL Friends with anyone who happened by.
Thanks to the families who helped out and special thanks to the Haven Middle School girls who volunteered to face paint. Thanks also to Ellen Newcomer and her army of membership volunteers, especially Nancy Doyle who has tirelessly manned the tables and answered any and all questions these past few weeks. Congratulations to Leila Cornyn who was our top reader, earning $167 for the libraries.
As Leila said,”I didn’t do it for the prizes. I did it because I love the libraries!”
On Thursday of National Library Week, many of you came out to our Container Gardening Workshop, and Mayor Liz Tisdahl joined EPL Friends and made a donation. See Trib Local’s coverage of the event here.
This Thursday evening, join South Branch for a Worm Farm Fest, and join North Branch as they celebrate with the merchants of Central Street for Retail Therapy as storyteller Susan O’Halloran will entertain with a storytelling event at North Branch.
Happy Earth Day, you sustainable-library-walkers, you. We’re on our way to success…
